Non-rotating wire rope (also called rotation-resistant or low-rotation rope) is a multi-layer wire rope construction specifically engineered to produce minimal torque and rotation under load. It achieves this by laying inner and outer strands in opposite directions, so their rotational tendencies cancel each other out. The result is a rope that hangs and lifts with minimal spin — essential for single-fall and long-lift hoisting where rotation would cause load spin, entanglement, or structural damage to the rope itself.


Opposite-lay inner and outer strands produce opposing torsional forces that cancel out — the rope stays stable and non-spinning under load.
In any application where a single rope supports the load without a second reeving to suppress rotation, a non-rotating rope is required for safe and stable operation.
Rotation resistance is classified by EN 12385-3 standard (Class 1, 2, 3). The class determines the degree of rotation resistance. We can advise the correct class for your application.


If your crane operates with a single fall (one line supporting the hook), you need a rotation-resistant rope. With multi-part reeving, standard rope is usually acceptable, but confirm with your crane manufacturer.
EN 12385-3 classifies rotation resistance in 3 classes. Class 1 is highest resistance, used for single-fall tower cranes. Class 2 and 3 are for lower lift heights. We recommend confirming the classification with your crane’s technical specification or crane manufacturer.
